Stonework repairs and the use of lime mortars: a look behind the scenes at the Worcester Cathedral stone yard.

Programme 10.30 am – 4pm

10.30 – Arrive at The Guildhall, High Street, Worcester for refreshments
11.00 – 12.15 – AGM followed by Branch meeting
12.15 – 12.30 – Introduction to afternoon visit to Worcester Cathedral Stone yard.
12.30 – 1.45 – Lunch.  Please find your own in the town.
1.45 – MEET BACK OUTSIDE GUILD HALL – Walk to Cathedral Stone yard or alternatively straight there for 2 pm, if you know where it is!
2.00 – 4.00 – Worcester Cathedral Stone yard for talk and visit on stonework repairs and lime mortars (Darren Steele).
4.00 pm FINISH

Reducing risk of fire in thatched buildings

This one day thatch roofevent, organised by Historic England, the IHBC South West Branch, and Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, will present the results of recent research into the causes of thatch fires, explain new guidance to reduce the risk and consider the implications for listed buildings. The issues that arise in the aftermath of a fire will also be discussed and there will be a demonstration of fire-fighting techniques for thatched roofs.                                                                                                 image: Historic England

The Traditional Paint Forum is pleased to announce that, after the sell out conference ‘The Triumph of Illusion’, our 2018 conference will explore murals and decoration applied to the building envelope. Our talks will span from Egyptian painting to the 20th century and will look at techniiques, materials and technical challenges of conservation.. The conference will be set in the amazing Great Hall of St Bartholomew’s hospital,which is not to be missed, and will include tours of the The Grand Staircase- The Hogarth Stair- the walls of which were decorated by William Hogarth (1697-1764).
