Scotland Branch: Contemporary Design in Historic Places – case studies in Dunfermline

19 June 2019 - 10:00 - 16:00

IHBC Scotland Branch 2019 CPD Training, jointly with Fife Council, takes the theme of contemporary design in historic places. Case studies in Dunfermline will stimulate discussion on issues that IHBC members regularly face in the adaptation of old buildings into new uses; the contemporary alteration or extension of a historic building.

Our venue, the world’s first Carnegie Library in Dunfermline re-opened in 2017 and is now also a museum, the Edinburgh Architectural Association Building of the Year and the holder of the RIAS Andrew Doolan prize. It is a place to inspire debate about the interface of new and old. We shall also learn about the future of the late medieval Abbot House next door, and the ongoing transformation of a large Dunfermline linen damask factory into a residential and commercial development.

CPD certification: 5 hours Price: IHBC members (all types) and Fife Council staff: £20; Others £30; students £15
