ESC – Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings: 2 day course – Level 3 Award Qualification

6 December 2021 - 09:00 - 7 December 2021 - 17:00

£495

Over one third of UK buildings are traditional – that is according to the definition of a traditional building defined in BSI PAS 2035: 2019: Specification for the energy retrofit of domestic buildings. These buildings are different to modern buildings and need to be treated differently.

The Environment Study Centre has teamed up with the CITB and specialist building consultancy Edwards Hart to develop this unique  2-day course that delivers a real qualification in energy efficiency retrofit. It is also the only course of its kind that is delivered all over the UK – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Environment Study Centre prides itself in delivering high quality training and since 2016 hundreds achieve the level 3 Award qualification from a range of organisations that have included housing associations, contractors, retrofit installers, sustainability bodies, consultants and heritage organisations which has included the National Trust and English Heritage. The course takes account of latest research and developments such as PAS 2035.

Upon successful completion participants will be awarded the NOCN Level 3 Award for Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings (QCF). This is a government approved qualification and has been developed to suit contractors and consultants, as well as clients.

This qualification provides individuals with the recognition that they have achieved an independently recognised level of knowledge. If you are involved in Government or energy provider (ECO) funded retrofit, you may be required to hold the NOCN Level 3 Award for Energy Efficiency for Older & Traditional Buildings (QCF) qualification. The UK standard retrofit specification ‘PAS 2035: Specification for retrofitting dwellings for improved energy efficiency’ makes this a requirement for Retrofit Assessors, although many individuals in other roles such as Retrofit Co-ordinator’s and Retrofit Designers have also undertaken the course and achieved the qualification in order to improve their knowledge and demonstrate to others their expertise in retrofitting traditional buildings.

The three NOCN Level 3 Award units that make up the Level 3 Award, and are listed below:

  • NOCN code H6MK 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Age, Nature and Characteristics
  • NOCN unit code H6MM 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Assessing Options for the Introduction of Energy Efficiency Measures
  • NOCN code H6MN 69 Older and Traditional Buildings: Making Recommendations and Giving Advice on the Introduction of Energy Efficiency Measures.

In addition, supplementary information to support learners understanding of the broader issues affecting the energy efficiency and retrofit of pre-1919 traditional buildings is provided in the form of a course handbook (provided in electronic format) covering the subject areas below:

  • Understanding the chronology, building styles, age and characteristics of traditional (pre-1919) buildings and understanding how the thermal performance and energy and efficiency of traditional (pre-1919) buildings are assessed
  • Understanding the impact of the Installation of retrofit of energy efficiency measures to traditional (pre-1919) buildings and installation of energy efficiency measures in relationship to craft occupations
  • Understanding the range of available energy efficiency systems and measures available
