Place Services – Setting of Heritage Assets

This course is aimed at Heritage Sector professionals and anyone involved in informing change to the Historic Environment.

This day course will be consider the practical implementation of Historic England Guidance The Setting of Heritage Assets.

The course will include:

  • Context and format of assessment from Heritage Statement to Public Inquiry.
  • Identification of Heritage Assets;
  • Assessment of setting and contribution to significance;
  • Assessment of effects of a proposed development; and
  • Explore ways to maximise enhancements and mitigate harm.

The course will consider various typologies and heritage assets-both built and archaeological features.

The course will be split into two sessions. The morning will consider the above and the afternoon will look at case studies and include an exercise.

The course will be led by Tim Murphy (IHBC, MCIfA), Historic Environment Manager at Place Services. Tim has extensive experience of considering setting both in the private and public sectors, providing advice at pre-planning stages through to public inquiry.
