SPAB – VIRTUAL – Evening Lecture: Wentworth Woodhouse, South Yorkshire
8 October 2020 - 17:00 - 19:00
Saving England’s largest country house
Presented by Sarah McLeod (CEO, Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust)
Wentworth Woodhouse is essentially two sizeable country houses back-to-back – a brick Baroque west front of 1724-28 and a sandstone Palladian east front of 1731-50 – created for the first Marquess of Rockingham by architects including Henry Flitcroft and John Carr. After requisition in World War II and later use as a college, in 2017 the house passed from private ownership to the WWPT to preserve for the nation. Its CEO will describe the huge task ahead.
