BCU & WM Branch: Architectural Terracotta – Conservation & Currency

5 July 2023 - 10:00 - 17:30

Birmingham City University and IHBC West Midlands are proud to announce this special one-day symposium on the conservation, repair and commissioning of architectural terracotta.

Terracotta is a defining feature of the appearance of our urban landscape, but treatments in the past have led to the deterioration of the material, leaving us with scarred buildings and funding challenges.

A cross-section of experts will present a series of talks sharing current good practice on the repair of architectural terracotta on site, the challenges faced on recent projects – Moseley Road Baths, The Natural History Museum, Harrod’s – and the commissioning of new terracotta to both conserve and create anew.

The talks will be rounded off by a walking tour of several recent projects in Birmingham City from 3:45PM to 5:30PM.

This event is expected to be popular, so book now to avoid disappointment. Prices are £28 for IHBC/TACS members, £30 for non-members, and £14 for students, including lunch and tea/coffee throughout the day. Guests are more than welcome to attend. If you have special dietary requirements, please email us the specifics as soon as you’ve registered, so that we can ensure you’ll be well looked after on the day.

Directions on getting to Birmingham City University’s Parkside building can be found on BCU’s website, towards the bottom of this page: https://www.bcu.ac.uk/about-us/maps-and-campuses/city-centre-campus/map-and-directions
