Building Conservation Summer School – Survey Training Day at Grade I Listed Barlaston Hall and Grade II Listed St. Johns Church

The Survey Training Day will be led by Duncan Philips and Stephen Boniface.   It is a ‘not-for-profit’ event as a follow-on from the Building Conservation Summer School 2022.

You will get to..:

• explore Grade I Listed Barlaston Hall
• explore Grade II Listed St. Johns Church
• learn about the significant coal mining damage which both buildings suffered
• hear the story of how Barlaston Hall was saved from demolition
• learn about the skills required to repair the house and the church
• learn about how to survey substantial houses and how this differs from ‘normal’ houses
• learn about church inspections
• practice new surveying skills in a safe and supportive environment

This is a truly extraordinary opportunity, which for many will be that rare ‘once-in-a-career’ visit, to see a building that had been destined for demolition until being rescued by ‘SAVE Britain’s Heritage’.
