IHBC North Branch is pleased to be launching a new programme of events for 2023-2024, kicking off with our Spring Social and AGM on Thursday 4^th May (5:30 – 8:30pm) at the Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle.

The Tyneside Cinema is the UK’s last surviving newsreel theatre and celebrated its 85^th Birthday last year. This beautiful venue has a rich history and retains many of its original design features inspired by Dixon Scott’s adventures in the Middle and Far East – including the glass mosaic floor in the foyer and the first floor’s original stained glass windows, both of which were hidden from view and preserved for many years before being uncovered during a restoration and renovation project. The second floor houses a mini-museum, which includes the camera that captured some of the very first national news footage.

We will be treated to a tour of the building, private screening of the archive newsreels and a guest speaker on cinema heritage…along with some drinks and celebrations in the Tyneside Coffee Rooms to mark the end of our #IHBC25 year.
