This three-day course is aimed at providing those who would like to increase their knowledge in conservation techniques the opportunity to learn the best approach to the repair of historic brickwork and use of lime mortar. The course will be useful for working bricklayers and owners of historic buildings who are keen to increase their knowledge of brickwork conservation prior to engaging tradesmen to work on their own property.

We are very privileged to be hosting the course at Mistley Common, in the small coastal town of Mistley in the Essex Stour Valley. The historic stretch of wall that we will be working on provides opportunity for all levels of skillset to build their knowledge and undertake hands on repairs. There will be opportunity for repointing, half replacement and full replacement of bricks.

The tutor for this course will be Lynn Mathias. Lynn is the Principal of Mathias Restoration Ltd and has over 30 years’ experience working with brick and flint in the conservation sector. Much of his foundation skillset was learned from his father, and he has also gained specialist techniques while gaining a City and Guilds qualification.
