This day course is aimed at those who are interested in or involved with traditional timber repairs and are looking to learn more about historic carpentry, identifying defects, understanding when repairs are needed and how to approach repairs effectively.

The day is divided into three parts:

The first session will comprise of two talks which explore how to identify if and when repairs are needed and what repair methods might be appropriate to heavy carpentry. The second session will allow students the opportunity to see examples of timbers and the tools best suited to repair them up close.

After lunch the final session will be an opportunity for a tour of the Grade I listed thirteenth-century barns at Cressing Temple (among the oldest timber barns and few surviving Templar buildings in England), to see historic and modern timber defects and repairs up close.
