RIAS – Conservation Opportunities and Challenges

27 October 2022 - 13:00 - 16:30

£80

This virtual CPD on Thursday 27th October has been put together by the RIAS Conservation Committee as CPD for conservation accredited architects but the topics will be of interest to all who are interested in saving and re-using historic buildings, including those considering conservation accreditation, architects, planners, and people working in the heritage sector.

The Buildings at Risk Register (BARR) identifies, records and monitors historic buildings at risk in Scotland. It also acts as a catalyst, linking potential restorers to buildings and sites.

Following an introduction to BARR, our speakers will explore some of the many opportunities and challenges facing architects and building owners in tackling historic building projects.

This includes building surveys, the condition of the fabric, fabric repairs, a conservation approach to thermal performance, introducing a new design, replacing missing elements, planning and grant conditions, archaeological investigations and recording, and community engagement.
