A Stroll in Bedford Park – A guided tour of the first garden suburb

1st August  (18:00 – 20:00)
London

Bedford Park in West London is justifiably regarded as the first garden suburb. The desire to protect the mature trees on the site led to the informal plan that is major feature of Bedford Park. It is now protected as a Conservation Area. Built between 1875 and 1886 Sir John Betjeman described Bedford Park as “the most significant suburb built in the [19th] century, probably in the western world”. In 2013 the Bedford Park Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Our guided tour will allow you to gain an appreciation of the area, its impressive housing, its heritage and its lessons for present day suburbs. Our guide will be John Scott of Oliver West and John Scott Architects. John regularly leads tours of the area and is an enthusiast.
