Health checks, a hospital and a barracks in Stirling

The Scotland branch of the Institute of Historic Buildings Conservation is going to Stirling to look at the new Health Check devised for Traditional Buildings, inspired by Monumentenwacht. Stirling City Heritage Trust will roll it out first and Sonya Linskaill will give us a preview in (where else?) a 17th century hospital, and later show in passing some other projects delivered by the Trust. Cowane’s Hospital is looking a little tired so we will discuss its prognosis with a well-practised GP in the form of Ben Tindall who first reported on its repair needs in 1975, when very young. Meet there at 11am, then have lunch (included) and walk to the Engine Shed, 2pm, prior to its planned remodelling as Scotland’s Centre for Building Conservation. Hear from Colin Tennant, HS, about what that is planned to deliver from 3pm at Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, (tea/coffee provided) followed by the AGM at which we determine the direction of the Scotland branch. Proceeds from hosting the 2014 Annual School enable the entire day to be FREE to IHBC Members and Affiliates. Non-members are most welcome, for a modest £20. The organisers can accommodate different arrival times for individuals if specified in advance during booking – this will be mainly for catering purposes.
