BS 8683 – Process for Designing and Implementing Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)
8 June 2021 - 14:00 - 15:30
FreeBiodiversity is essential to life on Earth, yet we’re seeing an ever-increasing loss of it, as a result of human activity.
To reverse this, we’ve got to implement development and land management projects in such a way that they deliver Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), leaving the biodiversity of affected areas in a measurably better state than before we started.
To help deliver BNG, we’ve now produced a new British Standard: BS 8683:2021 Process for designing and implementing Biodiversity Net Gain. Specification.
This document translates established BNG principles into a consistent and structured specification for designing and implementing BNG.
We’re running a free webinar on 8 June to launch the standard. It’s for anyone involved in development projects and land management activities with an interest in promoting biodiversity.
The webinar will:
- Introduce the standard in the context of BNG thinking in the UK
- Explain how the standard should be used
- Explain how the standard relates to government requirements
- Give participants the chance to put their questions to the standard’s authors
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a unique understanding of this important new standard.
Participants will hear from:
Lesley Wilson – Lead Standards Development Manager, British Standards Institution (BSI)
Julia Baker – Biodiversity Technical Specialist, Balfour Beatty
Gemma Jerome – Director, Building with Nature Ltd. and Fellow Landscape Institute, Landscape Institute
Nick White – Principal Advisor – Net Gain, Natural England
Jo Treweek – Managing Director, Treweek Environmental Consultants
